MIRROR PLEATS I ELUDING THE WAY ONE IS PERCEIVED : RAF SIMONS

BACKGROUND JEPPE HEIN, SPIRAL LABYRINTH, 2006. 200 x 512 x 428 CM, HIGH POLISHED MIRROR PLATE, ALUDIBOND,METAL FRAME. COURTESY JOHANN KÖNIG, BERLIN. FOREGROUND RAF SIMONS

IN THE BACKGROUND IS THE FAN AND IN THE FOREGROUND IS THE ARTIST. INSIDE THE LABYRINTH IS THE FAN TURNING IN CIRCLES AND HEADING OUT OF THE LABYRINTH IS THE FAN'S FAVOURITE ARTIST. THE FAN IS DISAPPOINTED BY THE FACT THAT THE ARTIST HE HAD IDENTIFIED HIMSELF WITH, THE ARTIST HE HAD COMMENDED ALL HIS PERSONAL TASTES TO REFUSED TO STAY PUT. HE MOVED ONWARDS. CHANGED DIRECTION. HE ELUDED THE WAY HE HAD BEEN PERCEIVED - BY HIMSELF AND BY THE FAN. HE DIDN'T WANT TO BE IDENTIFIED. THE FAN TRIED TO CIRCUMVENT HIM BUT THE ARTIST SUCCESSFULLY SIDESTEPPED. BEGÜM SEKENDIZ BORÉ.
